Repeated Courses
A student may repeat up to four courses (totaling up to 18 hours) of "D" or
"F" and have only the second grade (even if it is lower) included in the
calculation of the graduation retention GPA. The original course and
grade remain on the record and are noted with an * indicating exclusion from
the graduation/ retention GPA. The cumulative GPA includes both the
original and the repeat grade. If a student repeats a course more than
once, only the first "D" or "F" is excluded from the graduation/retention
GPA.
Grades will be
averaged for other repeated courses (e. g., the student repeated more than four
courses or repeated courses in which the student received an "A", "B", or
"C").
Academic Reprieve
A student may request that one semester or two consecutive semesters be
"reprieved" and not included in the calculation of the graduation/retention
GPA if all of the following apply:
-
At least three years have passed between
the semester/s in question and the reprieve request.
-
Prior to requesting
Academic Reprieve, the student must have earned a GPA of 2.0 or higher with
no grade lower than a “C” in at least 12 hours of regularly graded course work
(excluding activity or performance courses).
-
No reprieve previously granted.
-
Extenuating circumstances affected
performance during semester/s in question.
-
The student is currently enrolled at
OSU-Stillwater or OSU-Tulsa.
Academic Reprieve request forms are signed by
the student's advisor and Director of Student Academic Services and
submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs, and considered by a
review committee. Reprieved semesters remain on the record but are noted
with an # indicating exclusion from the graduation/retention GPA.
If the student passed a course during the
reprieved semester/s, the course may be used to fulfill content
requirements, but the credits will not apply toward graduation requirements.
Academic Renewal
Academic Renewal is a provision allowing a
student who has had academic trouble in the past and who has been out of
higher education for at least 5 years to recover without penalty and have a
fresh start. Under Academic Renewal, course work taken prior to a date
specified by the institution is not counted in the student’s
graduation/retention GPA.
A student may request Academic Renewal if the
following conditions apply:
-
At least five years must have elapsed between the
last semester being renewed and the renewal request.
-
Prior to requesting
Academic Renewal, the student must have earned a GPA of 2.0 or higher with
no grade lower than a “C” in at least 12 hours of regularly graded course work
(excluding activity or performance courses).
-
The request will be
for all courses completed before the date specified in the request for
renewal.
-
The student is currently enrolled at OSU-Stillwater or OSU-Tulsa.
Academic Renewal request forms are
signed by the student's advisor and Director of Student Academic Services
and submitted to
the Office of Academic Affairs, and considered by a review
committee.
All courses remain on the
student’s transcript, but are not calculated in the student’s
retention/graduation GPA. Neither the content nor credit hours of renewed
course work may be used to fulfill any degree or graduation requirements.
Reprieve
and Renewal forms are available in the Office of Academic Affairs, 101
Whitehurst. Contact (405) 744-5627 if you have any questions.
