A research article in the 2006 edition of “Business Research Yearbook” has ranked Dr. Nicholas C. Romano, Jr. from Oklahoma State University as the third most prolific electronic commerce researcher in the world, based on the number of refereed articles appearing in the top four electronic commerce journals from 1998 to 2004.
“I felt honored and humbled to be in the same company of some very senior researchers in the rankings. It was also an eye-opener to realize how difficult it has become for individual researchers to get multiple papers published in top Electronic Commerce (EC) journals,” said Romano, an assistant professor in the Department of Management Science and Information Systems in the Spears School of Business at OSU. Romano credits his wife Rosalina and department head Dr. Rick L. Wilson at the top of a long list of people who have provided the support that enabled him to achieve this level of productivity. “It’s a satisfying and validating accomplishment to get such a ranking and I realize I had a lot of help and support that made it possible. I feel I’ve made an impact through my research and that inspires me to continue to work hard to achieve higher goals,” said Romano. Romano is most proud of a paper he authored on Web Site Accessibility that appeared in the International Journal of Electronic Commerce. His research found that many top corporations did not provide sufficient means to allow people with disabilities to get needed information from their websites. “To conduct research that has a direct impact on helping people is a real motivator for me, and it’s even more rewarding when it gets attention in a top-ranked journal,” said Romano. Aside from the professional recognition, Romano says he’s happy that his department has set a goal to strive for national prominence. “We are fortunate to have many nationally and internationally known researchers and I hope my recognition as a leader in EC research means I’ve made a contribution toward moving the department closer to achievement of our goal.”
