OSU/A&M Board of Regents Name Presidential Search Committee Members PDF Print

  STILLWATER, OK/OKLAHOMA CITY – The appointment of members of the 2007 OSU Presidential Search Committee charged with leading a national search for a successor to Dr. David J. Schmidly who resigned in February after being named the new President of the University of New Mexico was announced today by Joe Hall, Chairman of the OSU/A&M Board of Regents.

The 34-member committee represents the broad and diverse constituencies of OSU and the System.  The composition of the committee includes representatives of faculty, staff, administration, students, City of Stillwater, OSU Foundation, Cowboy Athletics, each of the branch campuses, OSU-Tulsa Trustees, Regents, and alumni who are leaders in business, agriculture, and government.

“OSU plays a major role in teaching, research, extension and overall public service for the State of Oklahoma.  OSU has made some impressive strides in the past five years with advances in medical, educational, agriculture, and sensor technology research,” Hall said.  “We have strong momentum as we start this process, which is among one of the most important responsibilities of the Board of Regents.”

 Hall continued, “We have assembled an outstanding group and we appreciate their willingness to serve on the committee.  They will help us to identify the best qualified person who can lead OSU in the future and make sure we build on  our extraordinary accomplishments.”

As previously announced, OSU/A&M Board of Regents’ member Doug Burns has been appointed to chair the presidential search committee.   He is joined on the search committee by three other Regents:  Calvin Anthony, Stillwater; Jay Helm, Tulsa; and Joe Hall, Elk City.  The Executive Secretary of the Regents, Dr. Doug Wilson, will serve as an Ex Officio member.

“We expect a number of months of sustained work in order to identify the right person to become the next president and we look forward to a rewarding process,” Burns said.  The Regents expect to name the next OSU President this fall.

The committee members were selected in accordance with OSU/A&M Board of Regents’ policies and practices, which included nominations from the various constituencies of OSU.

Representing the OSU faculty on the committee will be Dr. Robert Miller, Regent Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics and Vice Chair of the OSU Faculty Council; Dr. Katherine Kocan, OSU Regents Professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology and Walter R. Sitlington Endowed Chair of Food Animal Research; Dr. Betty Simkins, Associate Professor in the Department of Finance and Williams Companies Professor of Business; and Dr. Jeff Edwards, Assistant Professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and Small Grains Extension Specialist.

Representing the students on the committee will be Mr. Andrew Mathiasen, Senate Chair, OSU Student Government Association; Ms. Jolie Britt, Freshman Representative Council Coordinator on the Student Government Association Executive Committee;  Mr. Carl Segura, Bennett Hall Director who is representing the Graduate and Professional Student Government Association; and Ms. Jessica Moore, President of the Native American Student Association at OSU.

Representing the OSU Alumni Association will be Mr. Sam Combs, incoming President of the OSU Alumni Association and President of ONEOK, Tulsa; and Mr. Rex Horning, President of Stillwater National Bank.

Representing the OSU Foundation will be the current Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees Mr. Ken Greiner, Retired Chairman of Grace Living Centers in Oklahoma City, and Mr. Kirk Jewell, President and CEO of the Foundation.

Representing Cowboy Athletics, Inc. will be Mike Holder, Vice President for Athletic Programs and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.  

Representing administrators will be Dr. Joe Alexander, President of the OSU Center for Innovation and Economic Development, Inc., and current Secretary of Science and Technology in Governor Brad Henry’s cabinet.

Representing staff personnel will be Ms. Leslie Miller, Senior Editor at OSU Fire Protection Publications, and Mr. Jason Pogue, Senior Financial Coordinator in the Office of the Vice President for Research at OSU.

Representing the institutions comprising the OSU System will be Dr. Steve Doede, OSU Okmulgee; Ms. Rhonda Reece, OSU-Oklahoma City; Dr. Jim Hess, OSU Center for Health Sciences; and Dr. Raj Basu, OSU-Tulsa.

Representing the OSU-Tulsa Trustees will be Mr. Michael Johnson, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Williams Companies, Inc., Tulsa.

Representing the City of Stillwater will be the Mayor of Stillwater, the Honorable Roger McMillian.

The at-large representatives will be Mr. Gary Clark, former Regent and current VP and General Counsel the OSU Foundation; Mr. John Clerico, Chairman and Registered Financial Adviser of Chartmark Investments, Inc., Tulsa; Ms. Nancy Payne Ellis, Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Board, Heritage Trust Company, Oklahoma City; Mr. Ike Glass,  CEO of Glass Operating Group in Newkirk, Oklahoma, 2006-2007 Chairman of the Board of The State Capitol Chamber of Commerce and  former member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education; Mr. Mark Hodges, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, Oklahoma City; Mr. Ed Keller, former OSU/A&M Regent and Tulsa businessman; Mr. Ross McKnight, President and Chairman of the Board of both RoMac Oil Company, Inc., and RoMac Gas Company, Inc., and past Chairman of the OSU Foundation, Throckmorton, Texas; and Mr. David Terry, Senior Vice President, Bank of Western Oklahoma, Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Carolyn Hernandez will serve on the committee in an advisory capacity as the Affirmative Action Officer.
