Army ROTC cadets receive top honors at OSU

Image(August 27, 2008  STILLWATER, Okla.) – Three cadets in the Army ROTC program at Oklahoma State University were recognized for outstanding leadership and military skills at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 27, at Thatcher Hall.

Two seniors will receive the Association of U.S. Army 2008 Outstanding Cadet Award.

They are John Andrews, a university studies major from Elgin, Okla. and Stephen Gagnon, a construction management technology major from Tulsa, Okla.

Troy Duerr, a fire protection and safety technology senior from Ripon, Calif., earned the Sinclair L. Melner Award for outstanding performance.

OSU was the only university in the nation to have multiple award winners. The honor is part of a nationwide consolidated leadership development and assessment course. More than 5,500 cadets attended the training at Fort Lewis, Wash.

“These three are very deserving cadets,” said Lt. Col. Jeff Hensley who heads the ROTC battalion at OSU. “Our Army ROTC program has had an incredible summer.”

Andrews was selected as highest rated cadet out of 381 cadets in his regiment. Gagnon was the number one cadet out of 363. Duerr was the second highest rated cadet out of 295. OSU is one of 273 colleges and universities to have an Army ROTC program. To learn more, visit http://rotc.okstate.edu.
