Patrick Braithwaite was named the new vice president for Student Affairs at Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee during the Oklahoma A&M Regents meeting in Stillwater on March 3.  Since January 2003, Braithwaite has served as division chair for OSU-Okmulgee’s award-winning Visual Communications Technologies division where he launched the highly successful student recruitment and retention initiative, “Genesis,” a state art competition for high school and CareerTech students.

As vice president for Student Affairs, Braithwaite will report to the president of OSU-Okmulgee, Dr. Bob Klabenes.  He will be responsible for providing overall leadership for the following areas: Admissions, Assessment Services, Counseling and Access Services, Marketing and Communications, Prospective Student Services, Public Safety, Registrar, Residential Life, Student Financial Services, Student Life, and TRIO Grant.

Prior to joining OSU-Okmulgee, Braithwaite worked for Chapman University in Orange, California.  During his 15-year involvement with Chapman, he worked in a number of administrative positions, held a faculty position in the prestigious School of Film and Television (regarded as one of the top five film production programs in the country) and worked in the university’s public relations and publications departments.  An accomplished and award winning photographer, filmmaker and writer, he contributed to numerous higher education marketing campaigns in print, multimedia and video.

In addition, Braithwaite was appointed associate dean in 1998 and director of student affairs and admissions for the film school in 2001.  Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the academic programs, he also handled all aspects of student affairs and recruitment for over 850 fulltime undergraduate and graduate students.

Braithwaite’s priorities for 2006 are full implementation of a computerized admission and enrollment management system (Recruitment Plus), developing a one-stop for student services (The Grady Clack Student Success Center) and working with an external marketing firm to create and execute a branding and comprehensive integrated marketing campaign for OSU-Okmulgee.

Braithwaite graduated from Phillips University in Enid, with a B.S. in Geology, received an M.F.A. in film and television production from Chapman University, and is currently completing a PhD in occupational and technical education from OSU.  He and his wife, Karalee, have two children, Kali, age six and Ethan who is three.
