Is “power save” mode good enough at night?
The EPA states that computers and monitors use more electrical energy than all other forms of office equipment combined. A computer or monitor in power save mode still uses more energy than a device that is off. OSU Energy Guidelines state: “All computers should be turned off each night. This includes the monitor, local printer, and speakers. Network or sensitive equipment is excluded.” (www.pp.okstate.edu/eem)
Wellness tip: Link between smell and food choices
If you hold your nose while eating chocolate, you might have trouble identifying the chocolate flavor. This is because taste and smell are closely linked. Smell can account for up to 90 percent of your ability to detect the flavor of some foods. Those with a decline in the ability to smell due to allergies, medications or aging often eat foods containing higher amounts of salt or sugar. Consider using more spices like basil, cumin or chili powder to increase flavor and offset a decreased sense of smell. Wellness tips are brought to you by the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America.
