Save on your electric bill, help the environment
Lighting accounts for 25 percent of an average home's electricity bill. Changing a single 75-watt bulb to a more energy efficient, 20-watt Energy Star bulb can save your family as much as $60 a year in energy costs. And when you cut your home energy use, you reduce pollution from power plants that make electricity. That's why replacing that bulb for a more efficient one can be as good for the environment as not driving your car for more than two weeks. At OSU, the Physical Plant is in the process of switching all lighting on campus to more energy efficient bulbs or fixtures. For more information, go to http://www.consumerenergycenter.org/lighting/index.html.
Wellness tip: Eating before exercise
Your body clearly needs food, but too much just before exercise can impair your performance and make you feel sluggish. Try to strike a reasonable balance. Eat your larger meals 3-4 hours before exercise. Eat small meals if you eat during the last hour or two before starting to exercise. Wellness tips are brought to you by the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America.
