OSU chemistry professor awarded Fulbright
Dr. Jeffery L. White, professor of chemistry, has earned a Fulbright Scholar Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the U.S. Department of State for research focusing on complex polymeric materials and composites. White will conduct research in collaboration with Professor Stefan Jurga in Poland during the fall 2010 semester on a proposal titled “Creating New Bioremedial Composite Materials from the Inside Out.” The Fulbright program focuses on fostering leadership, learning, and empathy between cultures around the world. Society for Range Management honors Fuhlendorf
The Society for Range Management has honored Sam Fuhlendorf of OSU with its Outstanding Achievement Award, recognizing his dedication to support rangeland work and its sustainable use. Fuhlendorf, an endowed professor, has a world-wide reputation and has developed innovative theories about natural resource management that build upon earlier theories to advance understanding of natural systems. Spears School professor to keynote international conference
Nicholas Romano, associate professor of management information systems in the Spears School of Business at OSU, will serve as the keynote speaker at an international Web 2.0 conference in April at the Brunel Business School in West London. Romano’s address, titled “Cloud Computing in Web 2.0,” will define and explain “cloud computing” in terms of its evolution as a platform and relationship to other modern computing concepts. The discussion will include the current state and future of the Internet. Romano will also be a visiting professor at the University of Bocconi in Milan, Italy, this summer.

New season of “Oklahoma Gardening” underway
The 35th season of OSU DASNR's award-winning TV show “Oklahoma Gardening” is underway with new shows every Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on OETA stations. For more information, click here.

OSU’s “Oklahoma Proven” selections are safe bet for gardeners
For 12 years the Oklahoma Proven program has helped guide gardening enthusiasts toward plants, trees and shrubs that have been proven to grow well in Oklahoma’s diverse climate and soil types. New secure remote access
Information Technology has implemented a new secure remote access service that will allow an employee or student to access resources on the OSU/A&M campuses in a secure manner. OSU Symphony to perform final concert of the season April 1
The OSU Symphony Orchestra will perform its final concert of the season on Thursday, April 1, at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts. The concert will feature two student concerto competition winners: Steven Jessup, trombone, and Zac Engle, tenor. Jessup will perform Bourgeois: Trombone Concerto; and Engle will perform Lalo: Vainement ma bien aimee from Le Roi d’Ys. The program will also include Mendelssohn: Son and Stranger Overture and Stravinsky: Firebird Suite (1919). General admission is $7 and $5 for students and senior citizens. The orchestra is directed by Douglas Droste.

Author to discuss Apaches’ use of native plants today
For the first time ever, elders of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma have shared their traditional knowledge of plants with Julia Jordon, who will be discussing her book on the subject on Friday, March 26, from 4 – 5:15 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room of the OSU Library. The book, “Plains Apache Ethonobotany,” documents and details traditional Apache collection, preparation and use of these plants for food, medicine, ritual and material culture. Noted art historian to speak about America’s interest in memorials
Noted art historian and American studies scholar Dr. Erika Doss from Notre Dame University will present “Memorial Mania: Public Feeling in America” on Monday, March 29, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. in room 109 at the Bartlett Center in Stillwater. Doss will focus on contemporary American interests in memory and history, and heightened anxieties about who and what should be remembered in America. Questions? Free retirement plan information meetings next week for OSU faculty and staff
Representatives from TIAA-CREF and OTRS will be on the Stillwater campus next week to offer information on determining retirement income needs and the importance of income replacement and OTRS. The meeting is Monday, March 29, from 2 – 4 p.m. with a repeat session on Tuesday, March 30, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in 416 Student Union, Case Study III. Hilti International internship information meeting set
Natalie Sanders from Hilti North America will talk about a Martin Hilti Foundation internship for (ideally) May graduates of OSU on Wednesday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m. in Classroom Building room 201. The paid internship starts in the summer at the Hilti headquarters in Liechtenstein and includes a month of language training in Cologne. Renter’s Fair coming next week
The Off-Campus Student Association will hold its annual Renter’s Fair on Wednesday, March 31, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Student Union Atrium. The fair offers students information on options for off-campus housing with representatives from different rental companies available to answer questions. Deliveries may cause congestion along Hester next week
Look for traffic congestion periodically along Hester Street next week as several modular units will be delivered to the vacant area northeast of the Classroom Building at OSU in Stillwater. The route for delivery will be northbound on Hester from 6th Street onto campus. The 18 modular units will be used to construct a temporary bookstore and food court so remodeling work can proceed at the Student Union.

“Leading Change” conference coming
A conference called “Leading Change” will be held Wednesday, April 14, from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Thursday, April 15, from 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the OSU-Tulsa Conference Center. The event is for executives, managers and other leaders involved in or preparing for change. It is taught by the faculty from the Spears School of Business at OSU.
