Services for OSU student set for Friday

OSU begins planning for Thursday night ESPN football game
Oklahoma State University will showcase its pre-season top 10-ranked football team and campus during ESPN’s nationally televised Thursday night game between the Cowboys and Colorado on Nov. 19 at Boone Pickens Stadium. The game is tentatively set for 6:45 p.m. OSU has formed a task force of administrators, faculty and staff to address the impact of the game on the campus, including parking. The university has already started updating campus, faculty and student leaders so they can make the appropriate plans and adjustments.

Student Union Marketing earns awards
The Student Union Marketing Department took first place in two categories and received two honorable mentions at the Association of College Unions International Steal This Idea competition. All four entries were displayed at the 89th national conference held recently in Anaheim, Calif.,  including first place for four-color brochure and for miscellaneous promotions, and honorable mentions for student staff cards/invitations, and professional cards and invitations. IQ expert to talk about creativity
Robert Sternberg, considered one of the top psychological researchers in the world, will deliver a lecture on creativity at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, in room 106 of the Noble Research Center at OSU. Sternberg, a psychology professor and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Tufts, will offer “Creativity is a Decision.” The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a reception. Workshop on new and existing tools to access/analyze census data
Two census workshops will be held Thursday, April 30, at the OSU Library. The first, “Get Ready for the 2010 Census," is from 9:30 a.m.  - 12:30 p.m. The second, “Using the Census for Economic Development,” follows from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. OSU-Tulsa to host Mayfest poster unveiling Thursday
The original artwork for the Mayfest 2009 poster will be unveiled Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m. at OSU-Tulsa’s Helmerich Advanced Technology Research Center. Now in its 37th year, Mayfest (May 14-17) is Tulsa’s annual outdoor fine arts and music festival. William Franklin, a self-taught mural artist and Tulsa resident, has been selected as this year’s poster artist. Posters are $15 or $25 if signed by the artist. The event will start at 5 p.m., with the unveiling around 5:30 p.m. For more information about Mayfest, visit www.tulsamayfest.org.

Get on board Mortar Board
Every year the members of Mortar Board publish the Mortar Board calendar as a service for students and student organizations. This calendar is recognized campus-wide for its listing of campus events, holidays, schedules, and contacts for the current year.  All organizations on campus are welcome to place important dates, special events, or weekly meetings in this calendar free of charge. Applications must be received by Friday, May 1, at 5 p.m. for the events to be published. Please e-mail your information to osumortarboard@gmail.com. Late applications will not be accepted. Lahoma Club to hold luncheon and tour at botanical gardens
The OSU Lahoma Club invites you to join OSU women as they meet at the OSU Botanical Gardens on Monday, May 11, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a luncheon and tour of the grounds. The luncheon cost is $8 per person. Reservations are required by Monday, May 4. Checks, made payable to Lahoma, may be mailed to Lahoma, P.O. Box 2704, Stillwater, OK 74076. Study seeking participants on health benefits of pomegranates
The OSU Nutritional Sciences Department in the College of Human Environmental Sciences is conducting a study to determine the health benefits of pomegranates in males and females with Type 2 diabetes or healthy controls. All assessments will be free of charge. Study participants will receive $90. To find out if you might qualify for this study, click here.

Wellness tip: Don't be tied to the scales
Does the number on your bathroom scale determine your mood for the day? For some, even a small weight gain can create a cycle of frustration, making them turn to food for comfort, which only perpetuates the problem. First, remember that small daily weight changes can be due to fluid changes or clothing. Don’t tie your self-worth to the number on the scale. Shift from being weight-centered to being health-centered. Eat healthy, stay active and feel good about yourself.
