Since 2004, OSU alum Dr. John Niblack has funded 45 undergraduates conducting research at OSU as part of the Niblack Research Scholars program. This year 12 students are receipients of the scholarship.

  • OSU Choral Gala tonight

    Join the OSU choirs tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 23) at 8 p.m. for their annual Choral Gala in the Seretean Center. Family and friends will enjoy a night of choral music performed by the OSU Chamber Choir, Women's Choir, University Singers, and Concert Chorale. Tickets are available at the door, $7 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. Come and welcome the interim director of Choral Studies, Dr. Bruce Browne, as he directs the Concert Chorale and Chamber Choir in their first performance of the year.

    This is “Alcohol Awareness Week”
    The peer health education team, Share The WEALTH, is manning an educational booth and preparing a demonstration to promote responsible behaviors and healthy lifestyles during “Alcohol Awareness Week” Sept. 22-26.  The booth, across from the Student Union Bookstore, will be staffed through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and provide information about alcohol consumption in hopes of curbing alcohol abuse. This year’s “Brew Review” will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater. Come witness the impact alcohol consumption has on the human body as seen in fellow OSU students.

    Historian of medieval art to speak as part of the OSU Arts and Humanities lecture series
    Medieval art historian from Tuft University, Professor Madeline H. Caviness, will be delivering two lectures on the OSU Stillwater campus, Sept. 25 and 26, as part of the Arts and Humanities Lecture Series. Her first lecture, “Medieval German Law Books that Kept Women and Jews in their Place,” will explore her most recent research in medieval visual culture and is set for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 5:30 p.m. in room 106, Noble Research Center. Her second talk, “International Collaboration in Humanistic Studies: Projects and Problems in the 21st Century,” will be held Friday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. in the Helmerich Browsing Room in Edmon Low Library.     Study Abroad Fair tomorrow
    The twelfth annual Study Abroad Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Atrium. The event will showcase the wide range of study abroad programs available to OSU students. Representatives from the Study Abroad Office, college outreach programs, off-campus organizations and students who have studied abroad will be on hand to answer questions.     Still time to register for Seretean Memorial Wellness Walk

    Help in the official kick-off for the United Way campaign by joining President Hargis and Pistol Pete to start the annual one mile Seretean Memorial Wellness Walk for the United Way at the OSU Library lawn on Friday, Sept. 26, at noon. The deadline for T-shirts and lunch has already passed, but you still have the opportunity to join in the fun, contribute to the cause. Registration $15 for faculty/staff and $10 for students. All proceeds go to the Stillwater Area United Way. Click here to download the registration form or you may also register the day of the walk.

    Ailli Schmeltz Exhibition at Gardiner Art Gallery
    The Alli Schmeltz Exhibition will be featured through Oct. 10 at the Gardiner Art Gallery in Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts at OSU in Stillwater. Schmeltz is a Los Angeles based sculptress and installation artist. Her sculptures, installations and paintings are often playful and always colorful. For more information, phone (405) 744-6016.

    Movie “Swingtime” next up in classic film series

    The OSU History Club will present the movie “Swingtime” starring Fed Astaire and Ginger Rogers, on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in 313 Classroom Building. The movie, described as lighthearted entertainment, was produced in 1938, and is part of the History Club’s classic film series. Viewing is free and open to the public.

    Used book sale at Stillwater library this week
    Friends of the Stillwater Public Library will host its annual Fall Used Book Sale Thursday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 28.  Thousands of used hardbacks, paperbacks, children’s books, and videos will be available for purchase. The sale will be held on the second floor of the Stillwater Public Library’s meeting room building. Books will be priced at $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks, and 25 cents for children’s books. Thursday is “members only preview.” For more information, go to www.library.stillwater.org.
