OSU Zoology professor Dr. Jennifer Grindstaff has been awarded a research grant for $339,567 to evaluate the effect of different developmental environments on the health and behavior of an adult songbird, the zebra finch. View a video about her research or read more.

Boone PickensReid to Retire
After 46 years of service, Karl N. Reid, long-time dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT), has announced his plans to retire.  He will remain in his position until a replacement is named, which is expected by the start of the 2011 school year.

OSU community input opportunity for master plan
OSU students, faculty and staff will have another opportunity to provide input for the new campus landscape master plan on Wed., Oct. 27, from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the south lobby on the first floor of the Edmon Low Library.

Library dinner to celebrate 3-millionth volume
The OSU Library’s 3-millionth volume is a first edition of John Hope Franklin’s “From Slavery to Freedom.” In honor of this milestone acquisition, the Cobb Speaker Series will feature Dr. Charles Johnson, author and scholar of African-American literature. Tickets are $100 each; half is a tax-deductible gift to the Friends of the OSU Library. Deadline for tickets is Fri., Oct. 29, call (405) 744-7901 or purchase online by clicking here.

Wellness tip: Hand gels—a good alternative
During cold and flu season, washing your hands with soap and water is one of the best ways to prevent infection and illness, but alcohol-based hand gels are a good alternative. If you shake hands often, travel frequently or have small children, hand gels can be a simple way to help keep the whole family healthy.
