OSU Presidential Search Enters New Phase
Presidential Search Committee Evaluates Nominees and Applicants

STILLWATER, OK – The search for the next President of Oklahoma State University (OSU) and the OSU System entered a new phase as the 33-member Presidential Search Committee began evaluating nominees and applicants during a regularly scheduled meeting held recently on the OSU campus.

The committee, comprised of a diverse representation of OSU constituents, including regents, students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, City of Stillwater, OSU Foundation, Cowboy Athletics, and other at-large representatives, as well as representatives from the various branch campuses, examined candidate materials.

Candidate materials were assembled following a six-week national advertising initiative aimed at attracting a pool of viable candidates for consideration.  The committee met with Bill Funk of R. William Funk and Associates, the presidential search consultant engaged by the OSU/A&M Board of Regents to assist with the national search process.

While the names and number of nominees and candidates received by the committee were not disclosed in order to maintain the integrity of the process, the Chair of the OSU Presidential Search Committee, Regent Doug Burns, said he was pleased with the quantity and quality of the candidates reviewed by the committee.

“We have heard from a number of people throughout the process about the caliber of individual we need to lead OSU and the System in the future,” Burns said.  “The input helped us develop a detailed position description and statement of qualifications outlining the character, credentials, abilities and experience we desire in the next President.  We received several impressive nominations and applications of individuals who possess the abilities and qualities we are seeking in our next President.”

Burns continued, “We are moving in the right direction at OSU, and the next President will have an unprecedented opportunity to elevate OSU on the state, national and global landscapes as one of the nation’s leading land-grant universities.”

The next step in the search process involves the committee conducting interviews with the top candidates in order to identify the best qualified candidates for broader consideration.

“The OSU community is indebted to the members of this search committee.  They are doing a tremendous job, and everyone knows the importance of appointing the right person to lead OSU.  I am personally very encouraged by the progress we have made in recent weeks and remain optimistic that we can select a new President before the end of this year.  We will continue our efforts as long as it takes until the right person is identified and secured,” Burns said.
